Mr. Osborne "Carl" Ward, Jr., a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday morning, September 7, 2012, at the age of 85.
Carl was born in Lewiston, Maine, one of two children of the late Osborne C. Ward, Sr. and Lyla (Hinshaw) Ward.He graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1944 and began attending Dartmouth College before being called to serve his country during World War II. Carl served for 3 years in the US Army Air Corps and upon his honorable discharge returned home to complete his education.
On September 16, 1948, he married Ruth Rundlett and together, they raised a family of three children.For 40 years, Carl worked in the accounting department for New England Telephone Co., retiring at age 62.He also served on the Board of Health for the City of Melrose for several years.Carl always enjoyed going to Essex where the family had a summer cottage for generations.
He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Rundlett) Ward with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.Devoted father of Jon C. Ward of Avon, CT, Dale B. Ward and his wife Robyn of Mt. Holly, NJ, and Martha McIntyre Lashua of Auburn, ME.Dear brother of the late Carol W. Brown.Cherished grandfather of Jason S. McIntyre and his wife Marcey of Hampden, ME, Sarah B. Kelley and her husband Ryan of Brookline, NH, and Benjamin W. McIntyre and his wife Nicole of Hooksett, NH.Step grandfather of Dennis Wilson and Tina Wilson, both of Mt. Holly, NJ.Cherished great-grandfather of Brendan & Ian McIntyre of Hampden, ME, Brodie, Matthew, Eva, & Dylan Kelley of Brookline, NH, and Isabel & Kara McIntyre of Hooksett, NH.
