Mr. Patrick Pica, a resident of Key West, Florida and formerly of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at age 82 on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Miami, FL.
Patrick was born on January 27, 1932 in Malden, one of three children of the late Gulio Pica and Antonette (Zagaria) Pica.Raised and educated in Malden, Mr. Pica graduated from Malden High School and attended Northeastern University.He served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Navy.
Mr. Pica worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in law enforcement for many years.He served as an Inspector for the Registry of Motor Vehicles in the Selective Enforcement Unit from 1961 until 1981 and later as the Registrar General Chiefs Aide for General McLaughlin in the Governor's Office. He retired from law enforcement as a Lieutenant Colonel for the Registry of Motor Vehicles.Mr. Pica enjoyed many years riding his motorcycle in the traffic enforcement division for the Registry.
He was a resident of Malden and Melrose for many years, and had lived in Stoneham since 1998.After his retirement, he was able to enjoy the winters in Key West, Florida. Mr. Pica was an avid fisherman and loved his family.He was a member of the DAV in Malden and the Knights of Columbus in Nahant.
Patrick was the former husband of the late Rose (Gramazio) Pica.Devoted father of Stephen M. Pica and his wife Judy of Peabody, Karen L. Comppen and her husband Charlie of Melrose, and Sharon M. Pica of Melrose. . Dear brother of Nancy Khan of Stoneham, and the late Chester Pica.Cherished grandfather of Patrick S. Pica of Oswego, NY, Gina M. Pica of Peabody, Jennifer L. Comppen of Melrose, Nicole E. Comppen of Melrose, and Stephanie R. Comppen of Melrose.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Patrick's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, August 22 from 9-11AM, followed by his Funeral Service celebrated at 11AM. Interment with military honors presented by the US Navy at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham.
