Mr. Paul R. Miller, of Winchester and a longtime resident of Cranston, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, October 8, 2012 at Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester.He was 95 years old.

Paul was born on July 22, 1917 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Charles L. and Anna S. Miller.He was raised and educated in Allentown, and graduated from Brown University with a Master's degree in History.Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Navy during WW II and proudly served in the Pacific Arena from 1942 to 1946 as a Lieutenant. During leave in August of 1943, he married his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Brayton in Providence, RI.Mr. Miller worked for the Industrial National Bank as a Trust Officer for over 35 years.With a very keen mind and strong work ethic, Paul continued working well into his 70's.He retired, but his many interests and his devotion to family kept him busy.

Mr. Miller was a longtime and integral member of St. David's on the Hill Episcopal Church in Cranston.Over his 60 years in the Church, he held nearly every position and title, from Junior Warden to Treasurer to longstanding Choir member.Music was of major significance in Paul's life.He started singing in choral groups at age 5, continued in High School as a member of the acapella and glee clubs, and sang first tenor in the University Quartet for four years at Brown University.He found great joy singing in the choir at St. David's on the Hill, which he was able to do for nearly 60 years.Paul was also a member of the Providence Art Club and Cranston School Committee.

Paul and Bette raised their two daughters in the family's farmhouse in Cranston.The home was in the family for multiple generations and supplied them with many happy memories.An avid gardener, Paul loved every moment he spent taking care of the acre of land around the house.He and Bette lined the brook that ran across the property with thousands of daffodils, spent countless hours tending to the grounds, and planted many hundreds of perennials and tulips.Theyalso enjoyed travelling.In particular, they loved vacationing in the mountains. Among many trips, they traveled to the Alps in Europe, the Bugaboos in British Columbia, and the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.They also vacationed to Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia.

With many passions and interests, Paul's devotion to caring and providing for his family remained paramount.He loved hosting family gatherings, never missed a family event, and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Paul was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth "Bette" (Brayton) Miller with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.Devoted father of Marcia L. Walsh and her husband M. Edward of Melrose, and Charlene M. Thatcher and her husband Bruce M. of Acton.Dear brother of the late Ethel Miller and Dorothy Weibel.Cherished grandfather of Megan DiMambro, Daniel Walsh, Matthew Walsh, Corey Flynn, James Thatcher, and Emily Thatcher. Loving great-grandfather of Aidan, Sofia, Brendan, Charlotte, and Olivia.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Paul's life at Trinity Church, 131 W. Emerson St., Melrose where his Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, October 12 at 9:00 AM.Interment in Pocasset Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
