Mrs. Pauline Leach (Edkins) Knowlton, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Pilgrim Rehabilitation Center in Peabody.She was 88.
Pauline was born on November 28, 1924 in Melrose, one of five children of the late Orville B. Edkins and Anita C. (Leach) Edkins. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1944.She was a devoted mother to her five children, always ready to offer support or lend a helping hand.She stayed at home to raise her children and after they grew up, she began a working career as a dietician at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham.In addition to her devotion to family, Pauline loved art.She enjoyed doing anything related to art, and especially loved oil painting.
Pauline will be lovingly remembered as the former wife of the late Elliot H. Knowlton.Devoted mother of David Knowlton and his wife Rita of Bradford, Louise Barnes and her husband Kenneth of Lawrence, Carl Knowlton and his wife Robin of S. Easton, Karen Knowlton of Melrose, and Robert Knowlton and his wife Debra of North Salem, NY.Dear sister of Ruth D. Sedlacko of Wakefield, Robert J. Edkins of N. Reading, and the late Donald O. Edkins, and Norma G. Black. Cherished grandmother of Sasha, Haleigh, Emily, and Samuel.
Relatives will honor Pauline's life privately.
