Mrs. Philomena M. "Phyllis" (Contrada) Pytlak, of Melrose, died Friday evening, January 9, 2009 at Melrose - Wakefield Hospital following a period of declining health. She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Pytlak was born in Boston, January 8, 1917, the daughter of the late Erminio Contrada and Giovannina (Anzalone) Contrada.
Phyllis was raised in Boston's North End neighborhood and graduated from Boston Girl's High School.She worked in the Office of Vital Statistics and the Corporations Division for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an office clerk for over 15 years, retiring in 1979.Phyllis was an avid seamstress, enthusiastic cook, enjoyed tending to her house plants, and will be remembered as a devoted wife and great mother to her children.For many years, Phyllis and her husband, Stanley, wintered in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida.
She was the beloved wife of 62 years to Stanley J. Pytlak; loving mother of Paul J. Pytlak and his wife, Jude, of Beverly and Janet M. Pytlak and her partner, Judith A. Fader, of Tewksbury. Dear sister of Joseph Contrada and his wife, Gloria, of Watertown and Fort Lauderdale, FL, Julio Contrada and his wife, Olympia, of Newton and the late Anthony Contrada. Cherished grandmother of Michael J. Pytlak and his wife, Nicole, and loving great-grandmother of Benjamin M. Pytlak, all of Melrose. Also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Julia Contrada of Tewksbury and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Wednesday, January 14th at 11 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 12 Noon.
