Mrs. Phyllis M. (Woolley) Cardello, a Stoneham resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Cardello was born on June 10, 1924 in Melrose, one of three children of the late George W. and Margaret (Morrison) Woolley.Raised in Melrose, she was a graduate of Melrose High School and the Malden Business School.

In 1944, Phyllis began her two years of service to our country as a proud member of the Women's Army Corps. While stationed in Texas as a medical assistant she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant due to her exceptional abilities in caring for others. She received an American Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal for her efforts.She was honorably discharged in 1946.

She lived in Everett for many years, and later moved to Stoneham in 1987 where she had many good friends. Phyllis was a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Avco Research Retirement Organization.

A gregarious woman, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her friends, especially with a competitive game of cards or going to Foxwoods to play the slots. She will be remembered for always doing her best to help others, including her role as a great mother, sister, and daughter in her family.She had a great sense of humor, a big heart, and loved to laugh.She also enjoyed going to the movies with her friends, watching endless hours of golf, and was especially proud of her years of maintaining a clean driving record. She cherished the time she spent with her two grandchildren, Kate and William, and will be lovingly remembered as a great Italian cook.

Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late William B. Cardello with whom she shared 35 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Karen Kelley and her husband Philip of Kittery Point, ME and Margaret Cardello and her spouse Deborah Ervin of Hopkinton. Dear sister of William H. Woolley of Stoneham and the late Wayne G. Woolley.Cherished grandmother of Kate Heal and her husband Justin of Las Vegas, NV and William Kelley of South Portland, ME.

Relatives and friends will honor and remember Phyllis's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, November 20 from 4-8 PM and again for her Funeral Service celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM.Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
