Raymond L. DeRosa, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at age 87.

Ray was born on August 8, 1926 in East Boston, one of ten children of the late Raimondo and Alfonzina (Sarro) DeRosa.He was raised and educated in East Boston.Ray served his country honorably in the US Navy during WWII and the Marine Corps during the Korean War.Ray owned and operated DeRosa's Submarine in Somerville for several years, before becoming a brick mason.He was member and past-president of the Brick Layers Union Local #3 in Charlestown.He worked on the construction of many buildings in the Boston area over his 30 year career.

Ray's greatest passion in life was raising and breeding boxers.For over 40 years with the help of his family, Ray bred show boxers at his home in Melrose.He also enjoyed a good argument about politics, and loved watching the Red Sox.

Ray was the beloved husband of Judy A. DeRosa with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.Devoted father of Kim M. Eustis and her husband Scott of Lawrence, Zina M. Clark and her husband Jim of Lawrence, and the late Scott D. "Chico" DeRosa.Dear brother of the late Netta St. George, Cecelia Borucki, Joseph DeRosa, Carmen DeRosa, Angelina Casiello, Eleanor DeRosa, Anthony DeRosa,Pasquale DeRosa, and Margaret Napolitano. Loving grandfather of Nicole and her husband Matthew, Rachel, and George.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will honor and remember Ray's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, September 25 from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday at 8:00 AM before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in Ray's memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
