Ray Harrington, age 80 of Saugus, formerly of Melrose died suddenly, Friday December 19, 2003 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.He was born in Melrose, November 26, 1923, son of the late Nilda and Gerald Harrington.Ray was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School and attended Northeastern University.
For 35 years he was a mechanic with Bardon Trimount, Everett.He served in the Coast Guard during WWII where he was an apprentice seaman on the USS Cambria. Ray enlisted in the Coast Guard immediately after graduating from Melrose High School, and served from 1942-1945,and saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific ocean.He received severalmedals including the purple heart and upon his discharge from the Coast Guard he received the rank of Gunners Mate second class.Ray was a life member of the Melrose YMCA.
Ray was the husband of Patricia (Borden) Harrington with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.Ray was the father ofR. Glenn Harrington and Gary Harrington both of Florida and Todd C. Harrington of North Reading.Brother ofDelma Harrington of Melrose and Barbara Schofield of South Yarmouth.Ray also leaves one grandson.
Funeral Services are private and interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
