Mr. Raymond A. McGeoch, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Wingate of Reading, at age 87.
Ray was born on March 11, 1927 in Rockport, one of three children of the late Raymond R. McGeoch and Elsie (Cunningham) McGeoch.He was raised in York and South Portland, Maine and settled in Melrose after marrying his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary McGeoch.Ray was a metal worker for Nevlen Corp. in Wakefield for over 30 years.
Ray was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Malden where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Blessed with musical talent, Ray was a great musician and loved playing the organ.For several years, his voice could be heard on Saturday mornings on the local Boston radio.In his spare time, Ray had a great fondness for the beach and ocean. He loved deep sea fishing with his family and friends, and travelling with his wife.Ray loved his family, and enjoyed getting everyone together for backyard cookouts.
Ray was the beloved husband of the late Mary L. (Jones) McGeoch with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.Devoted father of Linda Umlah and her fiancé William D. McCarthy of Southampton, Susan B. Blantz of Melrose, Randy W. Huber of Clearwater, FL, and the late Gary S. Huber.Cherished grandfather of Julie Emond, Craig Fielding, Jeremy Umlah, Jessica Blantz, Sarah Blantz, Eric Huber and the late Gary S. Huber, Jr.He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Ray's life by gathering at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Thursday, August 21 from 4-8 PM, and again for his Funeral Service celebrated on Friday at 1:30 PM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
