Mr. Richard W. "Dick" Dunn, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was 82 years old. Richard Dunn was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 29, 1928, one of two children of the late Richard S. Dunn and Lela (Coleman) Dunn.
Richard or "Dick" as he was well known was raised in Overland, Missouri where he graduated from Ritenour High School.He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during WWII for 2 years and was discharged with the rank of Corporal.After his honorable service, Dick graduated from Washington University in 1952.
Mr. Dunn worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric for 36 years.His working career took him across the country, from Johnson City, NY, Evendale, OH, Pittsfield, MA, Louisville, KY, Cincinnati, OH, and finally to Lynn, MA.He was certified as a Professional Engineer in Kentucky and received an award for his contributions to the Aircraft Engine Business in Lynn.Retiring in 1988, Dick had worked at General Electric's Riverworks plant for 23 years.
He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees for 12 years.He also proudly designed the current heating system at the Church which helped reduce the fuel consumption costs by 50%.Mr. Dunn also volunteered for the Perkins School for the Blind and for Bread of Life in Malden.
Dick was the beloved husband of Rachel (Halloway) Dunn with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.Devoted father of Robyn D. Sateriale and her husband Robert of Melrose, Richard H. Dunn and his wife Daphne of Hopkinton, Roger W. Dunn and his wife Anne of Hampton, NH, Randee D. Epie and her husband Felix of Wilmington, and Rebekah A. McCarthy and her husband Robert of Millis.Dear brother of the late Hazel A. Hatcher.Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Sateriale, Andrew Sateriale, Kelley Dunn, Daniel Epie, Cassidy McCarthy and Matthew McCarthy.
Funeral Service at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose on Monday, November 29 at 11 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visitation will follow the service in the Church library.Gifts in his memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Church or to Bread of Life, 511 Main St., Malden, MA 02148.
