Richard P. &Quot;Richie&Quot; Mcdermod

Mr. Richard P. "Richie" McDermod, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Thursday July 16, 2009 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation Center.He was 84 years old. Mr. McDermod was born in Westfield, a son of the late William McDermod and Edna (Phelps) McDermod.He was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden High School in 1942.He then served his country during WWII in the 66th Black Panther Division of the US Army.After his service time, he moved to Melrose with his wife Marion where they raised their two sons.In 1986 and after 35 years, Mr. McDermod retired as President from Elhide Company, a wholesale building materials supplier in Malden.Richie was the beloved husband of Marion (Simpson) McDermod with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.Devoted father of Doug R. McDermod and his wife Gerry of Middleton and Rick B. McDermod and his wife Laurie of Wakefield.Dear brother of the late William McDermod.Cherished grandfather of Jessica Gregoire and her husband Derek, Matthew McDermod and his wife Caroline, Cate Bless and her husband Jesse, Carrie A. Carr and her husband Patrick, and Holly L. McDermod.Loving great-grandfather of Max, Troy, Ayla and James.

Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Tuesday, July 21 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM.
