Mr. Richard D. "Dick" Puglia, a resident of Saugus, passed away on Thursday morning, April 29, 2010 after a brief illness at Beverly Hospital.He was 74 years of age.
Mr. Puglia was born on January 23, 1936 in Somerville, one of four children of the late Andrew Puglia and Rose (Tartaglia) Puglia.
Richard "Dick" Puglia was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, class of 1952.At the young age of 15, he began his working career at H.P. Welch Trucking Co. in Somerville where he continued working for 10 years.He was then employed by Bos-Taun Transportation reaching the level of Senior Vice President.In 1978, he and his wife, Carole, opened Manchester Hardware and Supply on Beach Street in Manchester-by-the-Sea.Dick served in the US Army during Vietnam.
Richard, or "Dick" as he was well known, was a self taught musician and craftsman.He played the acoustic guitar and crafted furniture.Dick enjoyed watching sports and his weekly musical gatherings to sing and play the guitar.
Dick was the beloved husband of Carole A. (Stephens) Puglia with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.Loving brother of Loretta M. McLaughlin and her late husband Ronald J. of Somerville, Rosemarie Scannell and her husband James of Peabody, and Andrew R. Puglia and his wife Joan of Somerville.Also survived by many nieces & nephews and great-nieces & great-nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held in honor and remembrance of Dick's life at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, May 3 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6 PM. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Everett.
