Richard was born in Saugus on November 30, 1928, a son of the late Richard E. Smith and Marion (Parkinson) Smith.
Richard, or "Dick" as he was known, worked for many years as a Chef in several restaurants, nursing homes and at the Saugus Hospital.He previously worked at the Tumble Inn in Cliftondale Square, Saugus.Dick enjoyed oil painting and loved dancing with his wife, Betty.
Dick was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth J. "Betty" (Essery) Smith.Loving father of Edward R. Smith and his wife, Mary of Vallejo, CA, Carol A. Driscoll and her husband, Walter of Saugus, Robin L. Allen and her husband, David of North Reading and Karen L. Darcy and her fianc?, Paul of Sarasota, FL.Dear brother of Frank "Buddy" Smith of Hobe Sound, FL, Marion Harrington of Saugus, Raymond Smith of Lynn, Eugene Smith of Lynn, Sandy Kuzmar of Boca Raton, FL, Donald Smith of Saugus, and Brenda Thompson of Saugus.Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
