Robert M. Bouchie

Robert M. "Bob" Bouchie, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Wakefield on Friday, January 3, 2025, at age 91.

Bob was born in Medford, son of the late Lawrence Edmund Bouchie and Flora Adele (Brymer) Bouchie. He attended Medford Public Schools then the Massachusetts College of Art, where he served as class president and earned a teaching degree. It was at his first job, teaching art at King Phillip High School in Wrentham, where he met his soon to be wife, Marion (Stupak).

They settled in Marblehead to start a family then moved to Brewster, NY, where Bob taught art at Mount Kisco High School. Several years later Bob moved his family to Rothesay, New Brunswick in Canada, where he worked as a director of art programs in the Saint John Public Schools. In 1973, Bob moved his family to Melrose, back to his Massachusetts roots. He began a long career as an art teacher at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, eventually serving as the Art Director until he retired.

Bob was an accomplished artist, working in many media including acrylic abstract paintings, watercolor landscapes, enameled jewelry, pottery and ceramics, silk screens, stained glass and illustrations. A lifelong learner, he earned his MBA at Antioch College when he was in his 40s.

Bob enjoyed a full life, traveling through Russia and Europe several times, hosting family and friends at his homes, attending church, and joining Mensa. For 20 years, he spent long summers with his family at his vacation home in Sebago, Maine, which became his passion later in life.

Bob was the devoted father of Lawrence Bouchie of Melrose, Rene Bouchie of Jackson, NH, and the late Christopher Bouchie. His brothers were the late Edmund Bouche and George Bouchie. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nicole Bouchie, Shelby Bouchie and Emma Bouchie.
