Robert A. Burns
Robert was born in Chelsea on May 27, 1931, son of the late Joseph and Emily (Ashley) Burns. Raised in Melrose, Bob was a graduate of Melrose High School. He proudly served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War as a heavy vehicle operator. After receiving an honorable discharge, Bob returned home and was married to Frances "Fran" Bulman. They resided in Malden with Bob working multiple jobs before settling in Melrose with their two sons.
Bob was a hard working, caring, and generous family man. For over 20 years, he worked as a Letter Carrier along the Fellsway in Malden, and then transferred to his hometown of Melrose for another 5 years. Bob kept his priorities simple and straight forward in life. He worked hard, took care of his family, and was always willing to help anyone. For many years, he enjoyed participating with his sons in the events throughout the country with the 27th Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps. He was a regular volunteer and eager to help with whatever needed to be done. Bob was always giving of himself.
At home, he enjoyed time with his family, and his cats. He was a NY Giants fan, and enjoyed traveling to Disney World for many family vacations. Most of all, Bob will be remembered for his caring spirit, strong work ethic, and generous nature.
Bob was the beloved husband of the late Frances L. (Bulman) "Fran" Burns. Devoted father of Kenneth R. Burns of Melrose, the late Daniel A. Burns, and stepfather of Ashley M. Phillips of Spokane, WA.
Relatives & friends will gather in honor of Bob's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 4-8pm, and again for his Funeral Service celebrated on Thursday at 9am. Interment in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
