Mr. Robert F. Lucas, Esq., of Melrose, a local Attorney for 45 years and a principal of Nigro, Pettepit & Lucas, LLP passed away on the morning of Friday, July 11, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.He was 72 years of age.

Robert F. Lucas was born on November 11, 1935 in Beacon Falls, Connecticut, a son of the late Otto F. Lucas and Augusta H. (Schuster) Lucas.

Robert was raised in Connecticut and graduated from The Taft School in Watertown, CT in 1952.He continued his education in Lewiston, Maine, completing his undergraduate degree at Bates College, Class of 1956.Robert then received his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law in 1959.

He was a self-employed Attorney at the law firm of Nigro, Pettepit & Lucas, LLP in Wakefield.

Robert was a devout 45-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Melrose.He served as the Chairman of the Administrative Board, as a Trustee of the Church and sang in the Choir.

He was Vice President of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Past Vice President of the Middlesex County Bar Association and Past President of the Malden Bar Association.He was a member and Past Master of Fidelity Lodge, AF&AM, Past District Deputy Grand Master, Past High Priest of Waverly Royal Arch Chapter and Past District Deputy High Priest.He was the recipient of the Joseph E. Warren Medal and the Henry Price Medal.He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason.He served on the Board of Directors of the Scottish Rite Learning Center for Dyslexia in Lexington.For 25 years, he served on the Board of Appeals for the City of Melrose and was Chair for 20 years.He also was a past City Solicitor for the City of Melrose.He was a founding Trustee of the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund.Perhaps, his proudest moment was being named Melrose Babe Ruth Coach of the Year.

Robert was the beloved husband of Regina (Abbiati) Lucas with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.Devoted father of Robert F. Lucas, Jr. and his wife, Rachel of Acton, David R. Lucas and his wife, Melissa of Melrose, and Jennifer J. Lucas and her fianc?, Steven Young of Belmont.Dear brother of Reed Gogan of Waterbury, CT and the late Ray Gogan.Cherished grandfather of Caroline, Jason and Will Lucas.
