Robert H. "Bob" Maiella, Jr., a Melrose resident and longtime facilities foreman for the Melrose Public Schools, passed away suddenly at age 46 in his sleep at home on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
He was born on March 18, 1966 in Boston and was raised in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School with the Class of 1984.Robert or "Bob" as he was known, began working as a custodian for the Melrose Public Library as a teenager.He soon moved on to his "true love", as Facilities Foreman for the Melrose Public Schools where he developed a great knowledge of all school buildings and quickly became the "go to guy" for all facility questions.His dedication to the Melrose Public Schools continued through many years of change and his diligent work contributed to providing safe, well-run facilities for Melrose students and faculty.His dedicated work for 27 years to the City is a testament to his kind heart and giving nature.
Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan remembered Bob by saying he was "loyal, incredibly hard working, passionate, smart, and an honest, upstanding friend to all." Simply put, Bob will be missed.
Bob's other passions included working with his hands, especially on cars and trucks, and doing carpentry work.He enjoyed watching football with his son and nephew, playing miniature golf, and loved going to Lake Winasquam, NH with his family.Bob was forever loyal to his family, cherished his time with his granddaughter, and was always ready to help in any way he could.
Bob was the beloved son of Robert H. and Mary (Pasqua) Maiella of Melrose.Devoted father of Christina M. Leon and her husband Joe of Malden, Joseph G. Maiella of Woburn, and their mother Corinne (Milo) Maiella of Woburn.Dear brother of Carol Batten of Nashua, NH, Jean M. Pineau and her husband Timothy of Woburn, and Diane Mace and her husband Paul of Billerica.Cherished grandfather of Sophia Leon of Malden.Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, February 28 from 4-8PM, and again on Friday morning at 9:00 AM before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
