Mr. Robert F. Perry, Sr., of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.He was 85 years old.
Mr. Perry was born on February 17, 1925 in Attleboro, one of two sons of the late William S. Perry and Margaret (Murray) Perry.
Robert Perry was raised in Attleboro where he graduated from Attleboro High School, Class of 1943.After serving in the US Army Air Force during World War II, he received his Bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1950.Robert or "Bob" as he was affectionately known was employed by the YMCA for 36 years.He served as the executive director for the Melrose and Malden YMCA for many years.He was a member and past president of the Malden Rotary Club and a member and past deacon of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church.A star athlete, Mr. Perry was inducted into the Attleboro High School Hall of Fame.During his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, bridge, and watching sports.
Mr. Perry was the beloved husband of Eileen (Gilbert) Perry with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Devoted father of Carol L. DeLacy and her husband Rich of Stoneham, Robert F. Perry, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Rowley, Thomas W. Perry and his wife Jeanette of Winchendon, Kimberly O'Brien and her husband Mark of Wakefield, James R. Perry of Denmark, ME, and the late Susan E. Callahan and her husband David of Oviedo, FL.Dear brother of the late William S. Perry and his wife Leona of Attleboro, and brother-in-law of Donald T. Gilbert and his wife Roseann of Wilmington, NC.Cherished grandfather of Karen Zarbo, Dave Callahan, Kristen Perry, Bryan Perry, Tommy Perry, Ashley Perry, Tyler Perry, James O'Brien, Timothy O'Brien, Mark O'Brien II, Melissa Perry, and Brandon Perry.Loving great-grandfather of Danielle Callahan, Ryan Zarbo and Victoria Zarbo.Loving great great-grandfather of Kyleigh Sirman.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St., Melrose, on Saturday, September 11 at 1 PM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Gifts in his honor may be made to the Robert F.
