Robert A. Pigeon, a longtime Melrose resident, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.He was 66.

Born on August 22, 1952 in Winthrop, Bob was one of six children of the late Ernest W. and Ruth M. (Luke) Pigeon.Bob was raised in Melrose where he graduated from Melrose High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in English from Salem State College.

From an early age, Bob developed a love for music. He learned to play the guitar, keyboard, and played the blues harmonica with great musical passion. Bob and his father, Ernest, even built a fully playable Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer. With his keen interest in music, Bob was a longtime member of "The Red Feather Band" based in Hull.

A lover of the outdoors, Bob enjoyed hiking and winters spent camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He also enjoyed kayaking, scuba diving, and going for excursions along the North Shore on his small sailboat and Boston Whaler. A couple of his favorite local adventures were taking a walk around Breakheart Reservation in Saugus and through the dunes of Crane Beach in Ipswich.

A devoted employee of Karas Glass for over 40 years, Bob enjoyed his work in sales for the Boston based company. Hard working and always honest, Bob was a well respected employee and became a well loved salesman in the New England area.

Bob dearly loved his family, and enjoyed anytime spent with them. A warm, caring, and thoughtful soul, Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Bob was the dear brother of Ernest W. Pigeon, Jr. and his wife Amy of Newburyport, Nancy Marino and her husband Tony of Tewksbury, Donald Pigeon and his wife Carol of New Port Richey, FL, Carl Pigeon and his wife Debi of Tewksbury, and Richard G. Pigeon and his wife Julie of N. Charleston, SC. Proud uncle of David Haskell, Doug Haskell, Carie Pigeon, Sarah Pigeon, Matthew West, and Jami Boisvert. Also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews, and his best friend of 40 years, Luigi Gallo.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Bob's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 9-10am, followed by his Funeral Service celebrated at 10am. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Bob's memory may be made to the Trustees of Reservations, 200 High St.,4th Fl., Boston, MA 02110, or to MGH Cancer Center, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.
