Bob Reul (Robert Steven Reul), age 77, of Stoneham, MA, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015.He was the son of Edward Reul and Ada (Farmer) Reul, brother of Jim and Dorothy.
Bob was born in Flushing, Queens on July 24, 1938, when that part of New York City was a small, rural community. It was a time when little boys went out for the whole day to explore and was most likely the foundation for his wondrous imagination. He loved to read and developed a lifelong fascination with science fiction and fantasy at an early age.
Bob wanted to be a doctor, but times were tough, so instead he became a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy.
He was a very talented artist, and studied at Pratt Institute and The Art Students League in New York City.
Bob transferred his talents to the commercial world, first as an illustrator, then a mechanical artist. He developed his skills working at the office of world-renowned industrial designer Raymond Lowey, then worked his way up to Senior Vice President at Muir Cornelius Moore and Print Production Manager at Cosgrove Associates, two large Manhattan ad agencies.
Bob's first marriage produced five wonderful sons:Steve, Chris, Danny, Terry and Tim.
Although Bob's sons lived far away, and he was unable to see them as much as he would have liked, he loved them all dearly. They were always in his heart. He felt the same about his sons' wives, as well as their children: Christopher, Ashley, Nicholas, Shawn and Kayla.
A short time after his first marriage ended, Bob met Janet Cohen, who was freelancing as a writer at the ad agency of a dear friend where Bob was working as an artist. They fell in love in two minutes on an elevator, and within a few months, Bob told Janet, "You will be the love of my life."She was. . . and he continues to be hers.
Their daughter, Sarah Lynne Reul, seems to have inherited all of Janet and Bob's good traits, and very few of the others. Sarah's marriage to Bob's beloved son-in-law, Nick, and the birth of their children, Miriam and Coralie, were the motivation for Bob and Janet's move to Massachusetts. This move brought great joy to Bob in his later years. He also loved his cats and koi pond (and he tolerated the dog).We will always miss his sense of humor and his love.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Bob's life at 1pm on Wednesday, December 30th, 2015 at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, MA.In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to the American Lung Association of the Northeast, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108 or via www.lung.org.
