Mr. Robert Lewis Wadland, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2010 at his childhood home after a period of declining health.He was 90 years old.
Mr. Robert L. Wadland was born on May 31, 1920 in Melrose, one of three children of the late Henry J. S. Wadland and Elsie D. (Verry) Wadland.
Robert was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School and Northeastern University. He worked for 40 years for General Electric where he was proudly involved with developing and testing the first jet-engine ever built in the United States. He also worked with Williams Sound Company installing sound systems as a registered professional engineer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years and was a 50-year member of Fidelity Lodge AF&AM.
Robert was the beloved husband of Beatrice T. (Flagg) Wadland with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.Devoted father of Carolyn B. Stackpole and her husband Dr. Peter W. of W. Bath, ME, Dr. Kenneth R. Wadland of Albion, RI, Judy D. Tanner and her husband Robert L. of Wakefield, and the late Larry A. Wadland.Loving father-in-law of Caroline Wadland of Malden, Deborah Wadland of Melrose and the late Vera J. Wadland.Dear brother of Philip L. Wadland of Stoneham and Natalie A. Vaughan of N. Carolina.Cherished grandfather of Tania Wadland, Lynne Stackpole-Tripp, Amy Kilbury, Robert Lawrence Wadland, Richard Kenneth Wadland, Lisa Rogalin, Angela Tanner, and Matthew Seely.He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
