Mrs. Rosalie "Sarah" (Pandolfo) Szmyt, a longtime resident of Saugus, passed away Monday morning, February 1, 2010 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.She was 90 years old.
Rosalie was born on January 14, 1920 in Anita, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Matteo Pandolfo and Angela (Mazza) Pandolfo.
Mrs. Szmyt was raised and educated in East Boston.She worked as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the division of unemployment for 25 years.She enjoyed crocheting scarves and was a very friendly person to everyone she met.
She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Szmyt with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Rosalie M. Scimone and her husband Joseph F. of Stoneham, Walter J. Szmyt of Saugus, Ronald M. Szmyt of Lowell, and Mary Ann Walsh and her late husband John of Medford.Dear sister of Josie Forgione of Medford and the late Vita LaCava, Pearl Caci, Russell Pandolfo, Martin Pandolfo, Nicholas Pandolfo and Carmen Pandolfo.Cherished grandmother of Gina Surette, Christina Scimone, Rosalie Mirabella, Veronica Richards, Victoria Szmyt, Jacqueline Szmyt, Heidi Walsh, and Katie Walsh.Loving great grandmother of Gabriella Surette, Christian Perez, Angela Richards and Gianna Richards.Also survived by many nieces and nephews and Virginia Szmyt of Malden.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE on Thursday, February 4 at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in honor and remembrance of Rosalie's life at St. Anthony's Church, Revere St., Revere at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 PM.Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
