Mrs. Rosemary (Dupill) Behrle, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.She was 84 years old.
Rosemary was born on February 1, 1929 in Rangley "Oquossoc" Maine, one of two daughters of the late Ernest J. and Sylvia M. (Kelsey) Dupill.At age 15, Rosemary moved to Melrose with her family.She graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1947.During high school, she worked at Woolworth's in downtown Melrose.After graduating she married Carl A. Behrle, Jr. and they settled in Melrose to raise their children.
Mrs. Behrle worked at Melrose Savings Bank in the Loan Department for many years.She also worked at the Elmhurst Nursing Home as a housekeeper, and was a sales associate for Touraine Department Store.She also enjoyed babysitting neighborhood children in Melrose, and was an "Avon Lady" for 40 years.
Rosemary was a devoted volunteer for the Melrose community.She loved helping where she could, and was always available to organize an activity.For years, she helped the City of Melrose conduct the annual census by going door-to-door and collecting household statistics. She was active with the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund, volunteered at the Melrose Victorian Faire, and volunteered at the polls during elections.Rosemary also enjoyed travelling, especially her trips to Alaska, Greece, Bermuda, Australia, and Germany.
Of particular importance to Rosemary was her involvement with Melrose Seniors and AARP.She stayed busy by organizing the monthly trips through the Council on Aging and excursions for the "200 Club." She loved taking trips to Foxwoods, playing Bingo at the Senior Center, and loved the annual Christmas Bazaar at the Levi Gould and Fuller Houses.For her years of supporting the many activities and programs offered through the City of Melrose and Council on Aging, she received the "7 over 70 Award."
She was the beloved wife of the late Carl A. Behrle, Jr. with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.Devoted mother of David Behrle and his wife Brenda of Stoneham, Patricia A. Carriere and her husband Stephen of Wakefield, Donna M. Behrle of Melrose, and Linda L. Dalton and her husband Mark of Haverhill. Dear sister of the late Margaret Dupill.Cherished grandmother of Christine, Stephen, Jr. and Jacqui Carriere, all of Wakefield.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Rosemary's life by gathering during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, July 14 from 2-6 PM, and again on Monday morning at 9 AM before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
