Roy M. Dole
Roy Dole was born on July 16, 1918 in Belmont, one of two children of the late Roy M. Dole and Mabel K. (Owen) Dole.
Mr. Dole was raised in Reading by his grandparents, the late Albion and Julia Dole, due to the death of his parents.He attended the Farm and Trades School on Thompson Island in Boston Harbor, where he excelled in sports and music.He then returned to Reading where he was a member of the first undefeated Reading High School basketball team.He graduated from Reading High School in 1937 and began a career in banking at First National Bank of Boston before being called to serve in the US Army.He was stationed on Alaska's Aleutian Islands during WWII for 24 out of his 39 months of active duty.Upon returning from the war, he continued his employment with Bank of Boston where he finished his career after 52 years.Mr. Dole was an avid tennis player.
Roy M. Dole was the beloved husband of the late Madeleine (Gould) Dole with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.Devoted father of Leslie G. Dole and his fiancé Janice Butterfield of Methuen. Dear brother of the late Ruth Albreck.Cherished grandfather of Gregory A. Dole and his fiancé Christy Hoffman of Woburn and the late Rachel Ann Dole.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours on Monday from 3-5 PM.Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.Gifts in his memory may be made to the CSF of Wakefield, The Roy M. and Madeleine G. Dole Scholarship Fund, PO Box 321, Wakefield, MA 01880.
