Ruth M. Currie

Ruth Margeret Currie passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, and nana, she was cherished by all who knew her.

Ruth found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A passionate traveler, she especially loved visiting loved ones. She was also an avid bingo player, a lifelong Elvis fan and a passionate sports fan (Go Eagles!). Ruth had a gift for bringing warmth and laughter to those around her, and her kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Though she may no longer walk among us, her love and light continue to shine in the hearts of her family and friends.

Beyond her love for family, Ruth had a sharp mind and a remarkable knack for numbers. She played the daily lottery religiously, often picking numbers based on birthdates, addresses, and other significant dates. She had an uncanny ability to remember these details and could tell you the last time your number had been played (and in what order, straight or boxed). In another era, Ruth could have easily been an accountant, software engineer or a math professor, but instead, she applied her gift in everyday life-whether keeping track of family milestones, counting the barrels of leaves she collected in her yard, or strategizing her next lucky pick.

Born on June 12, 1931, in Everett, Massachusetts, Ruth was the daughter of Ruth and Charles Melvin. She was one of five children. In 1959, she moved to Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, where she lived for many years before relocating to Shelby, North Carolina, in the mid 90s to be closer to family. For the past decade, she made her home in Aberdeen, Washington.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sharon Taylor of Aberdeen, Washington. She is survived by her two sons: Bruce Currie and his wife, Sally, along with their six children-Jason Currie, Jessica Fortescue (Mitch), Sarah Currie, Annie Pilz (Chris), Jill Currie and Holly Hunt (Kemp); and Steve Currie and his wife, Patti, with daughters Erin Barber and Nicole Currie. She is also survived by Sharon's children, Nathan Isaacs (Dawn) and Kim Archer, as well as her daughter-in-law, April Currie. In addition to her 10 grandchildren, Ruth was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Donna Blake, and her husband, Steve; and her brother, James Melvin, and his wife, Mary. She was preceded in death by her sister, June Melvin Windsor, and her brother, Charles Melvin. Many nieces and nephews also mourn her passing.

Ruth's legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will be carried on by the family she adored and the many lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in Ruth's honor at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose for her Funeral Service on Saturday, March 15 at 10am. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
