Ruth E. (Christie) LeSaffre, a long-time resident of Stoneham, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Bear Hill Nursing Center. She was 77 years old at the time of her passing.
Born in Winchester on November 22, 1944, Ruth was one of three children of the late James E. and Ruth (Westcott) Christie. She grew up in Wakefield, graduating from Wakefield High School Class of 1962. She enjoyed skating, camping and traveling around New England in the summers with her parents. Ruth was the youngest of three girls and she adored her older sisters and their families. Ruth was a wonderful 'Auntie', creating wonderful memories with extended family.
After high school, Ruth attended Katharine Gibbs College earning her associates degree. She worked at Filene's in Boston while attending school. She met Daniels at Friendly's in Saugus. They were married in 1965, and they shared many wonderful years together.
They first lived in Melrose before settling in Stoneham in 1971. She was a homemaker until 1977 when she went to work for a local Wakefield bakery. After that she worked for Stoneham Public Schools as the Assistant Food Service Director. After Ruth retired, she became a receptionist at Laschi Hair and Day Spa in Reading and worked there until 2005. She loved working, enjoyed being social and talking about her family and friends to others.
Ruth adored her family and always treasured time spent with them. She was warm, loving, and inviting to everyone. Her children's friends enjoyed stopping over at the house just to get to chat with Ruth. She was a "second mom" to many. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends.
With an adventurous spirit, Ruth felt alive in the outdoors. She liked to hike, camp, and waterski. Her favorite spot was Wilson Lake in Acton, Maine.
Ruth also enjoyed dancing and listening to music, especially country music. Ruth ran a seasonal craft store out of her garage with a good friend of hers
in the early 80's. She loved crocheting, working with stained glass, etc., and Ruth quite possibly enjoyed Christmas more than just about anyone.
Ruth's sense of humor, warmth, love for family, friends, and animals will be missed.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Daniels G. LeSaffre with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Scott LeSaffre and his husband Michael Fitta of Lowell, and Sara LeSaffre and her husband Tim Morris of Wakefield. Cherished grandmother of Meredith, Sean, and Matthew Morris. Caring sister of Priscilla Dalrymple and her late husband Phillip of Londonderry, NH, and the late Gretchen Graves and her late husband Louis. Also survived by many loving nieces & nephews.
