Mrs. Ruth (Blaisdell) Varney, a resident of Saugus, and formerly of Melrose and Wakefield, passed away at North Shore Medical Center in Lynn on February 4, 2012, at the age of 95.
Mrs. Varney was born on August 26, 1916, in Swampscott, a daughter of the late Harry L. Blaisdell and Mabel E. (Brenton) Loomis.
Ruth was raised in Swampscott and Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School.She married the late Paul F. Varney and they settled in Melrose to start a family.She worked for over 20 years as a bookkeeper for Benson Goss Fuels in Melrose and for Dental Ceramics in Wakefield for 10 years.Ruth was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Melrose.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Linda Varney of Saugus; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Paul F. Varney; her brother, Harry Blaisdell, and sister, Phyllis Burley.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Ruth's life by gathering at the Robinson Funeral Home 809 Main St., Melrose on Saturday March 24 where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
