Mrs. Ruth (Barry) Willey, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 11, 2013 in Westborough, at age 92.
Mrs. Willey was born on September28, 1921 in Malden, the daughter of the late Charles E. Barry and Gladys H. (Pearson) Barry.
Ruth was raised and educated in Malden.She married the late Bernard Willey on November 9, 1947 and they settled in Melrose to raise a family.Ruth worked as a proofreader for many years at Addison Wesley and Cahners Publications.
Prior to her long struggle with Alzheimer's, Ruth loved spending time in Chatham with her family particularly at the beaches and band concerts.She also loved listening to the music of the thirties, forties, and fifties.She enjoyed wintering in the warm Florida weather.She had a passion for dabbling in investments and was an avid book reader.
Ruth's family would like to thank the staff of Kindred Transitional Care in Westborough for the wonderful care provided during Ruth's eight year stay. We would also like to thank the staff of PeopleFirst Hospice for their assistance during Ruth's final months.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Bernard S. Willey with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Albert B. Willey and his wife Barbara of Poinciana, FL and W. Chatham, and Donna R. Shea and her husband Robert of Longmeadow and W. Chatham.Cherished grandmother of Monique Leonard and her husband Chris of Walpole, and Brian Shea and his wife Jackie of Windsor, CT.Loving great-grandmother of Ethan of Walpole.
