Sally J. Doucette, longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was 85.
Sally was born in Milo, Maine on June 9, 1939, one of two children of the late Edward A. and Margaret (Dickson) Coy. She grew up in Medford.
She met the love of her life, James R. Doucette, Sr., and together they settled in Melrose to build a beautiful life and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with family being the cornerstone of her life.
Sally was known for her unwavering work ethic and her dedication to caring for others. She spent many years as a home health aide, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she served. Even in retirement, her generous spirit shone through as she volunteered her time driving friends and neighbors to appointments, bingo games, trips to the casino always bringing warmth and laughter to those around her.
An avid crocheter and a wonderful cook, Sally had a special gift for feeding the whole neighborhood with her delicious meals and famous baked goods. Her love for sharing food was matched only by her love for laughter, which echoed through her home and filled the hearts of those who visited.
Sally always had a puzzle in the works on her dining room table. She also loved to read and play cards.
Sally had a deep affection for the state of Maine, particularly Bar Harbor, where she found solace and joy. Her fondness for long road trips took her to breathtaking landscapes, creating cherished memories along the way.
Sally's memory will live on in all those who knew and loved her.
Sally was the beloved wife of the late James R. Doucette, Sr. with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Cheryl Cerretani of Haverhill, James R. Doucette, Jr. of Melrose, Edward A. Doucette and his wife Diane of Wakefield, Margaret McKone and her husband Joel of Estero, FL, Lisa Smith of Boxford, and the late Mark Doucette. Loving Sister of Nancy Coy-Nelson and her late husband Richard of Oceanside, CA. Cherished grandmother of Michael and his wife Rachel, Jennifer and her husband Randy, Sara and her husband Jon, Ben and his wife Hillary, Mark and his wife Alicia, Brad and his wife Chelsea, Lauren and her fiancé Stephen, and Britney and her fiancé Fred. Proud great grandmother of Lucas, Lily, Nicholas, Madison, Noah, Olivia, Ava, Jack, Elizabeth, June, Evelyn, Ginny, and Quinn.
In accordance with Sally's wishes, services are private. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
