Sandra L. Doucette

Sandra L. Doucette, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Mass General Hospital on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at age 65.

Sandra was born on September 26, 1950, daughter of the late Lucille A. (Hubbard) Doucette. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School. Most recently, she worked as a Medical Secretary for Malden Visiting Nurses for several years. An animal lover, she was a member of the Humane Society for many years.

Sandy was faced with many challenges in life, but always endured, coming away with a smile on her face and ready for the next chapter. She was intelligent, strong, and with her big heart was determined to continue living her life regardless of the obstacle. Sandy shared her innate love with those around her through her generosity and willingness to help. She provided loving support to her family as a caregiver, and adored her animals, especially her beloved cat "Boo" and bird "Molly."

Sandy was well liked wherever she went. While recovering at CareOne at Peabody, she made her presence felt with her kindness and compassion by kindly offering free advice and help with paperwork to other residents in the rehab facility. The DelGenio family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the care and considerate attention they provided to Sandy. Sandy will be missed, but forever remembered by all those who loved her.

Sandy was the dear, loving friend and companion to Kathryn R. "Kathy" DelGenio of Melrose. Together with Kathy, her siblings mourn Sandy's loss as they had welcomed her into their family with open arms. Kathy's family includes Dennis W. DelGenio and his wife Marianne of Danvers, David A. DelGenio of Malden, Stephen X. DelGenio and his wife Sharon of Melrose, and James F. "Skip" DelGenio of Melrose. She was the caring aunt of Kristine, Alyssa, Meaghan, Anthony, and Regina DelGenio.

A celebration in honor of Sandy's life will be held at the Mt. Hood Clubhouse, 100 Slayton Road, Melrose on SUNDAY, October 30, 2016 at 11am.

In honor of Sandy's love for animals, please consider a gift in her memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem MA 01970.
