Sandra L. Stowers

Sandra L. Stowers, longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at her home.  She was 80.

Born on February 28, 1942 in Melrose, Sandy was one of two children of the late Thurston and Rose (Rykoski) Stowers.  Sandy lived in the same house in Melrose for over 70 years. She attended Calvin Coolidge School, graduated from Melrose High School (1960) and attended Chandler School for Women.

Sandy worked at Coffin & Richardson Engineers, Inc. in Boston, H.F. Livermore, Inmont Corporation, Acme Printing in Medford, Arthur D. Little Research & Development, and MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Publications.

She loved working in her garden and so many people went by the house to admire it that she became known as the Flower Lady. She also enjoyed the beach and sharing it with her friends, especially Carol and Paul.

Sandy also looked forward to Christmas to entertain the girls she worked with except for one man, Dan Deteso, who was their Santa. She also loved entertaining her special girlfriends from high school and driving around in the one car she liked the most, her forest green 1967 Ford Mustang convertible.

Sandy was the loving aunt of Philip Thurston Adams and his wife, Joellen, and their children, Christin, Michael, Alyssa, and Jacob, and John Scott Adams and his wife Deanne, and their sons, Benjamin, and Zachary. Loving sister of the late Bette Jo Adams.  Family, friends, and mostly Sandy appreciate and love our wonderful friend, Jill McGee, who has cared for and helped Sandy through this illness.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Sandy’s life for a visiting hour at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, September 23 from 10-11am and for her Funeral Service celebrated at 11am.  Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
