Mrs. Sarah L. "Sally" (Spinney) Goodwin, of Melrose and Somerville, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 in the VNA Assisted Living Facility in Somerville. She was 88.
Sarah was born in Publico, Nova Scotia, Canada on November 20, 1921, one of four children of the late Clinton and Alithia (Hamilton) Spinney.
She was raised and educated in Canada and moved to the United States in 1940.For many years, she worked in the cafeteria at H.P. Hood Company in Charlestown. After moving from Canada, Sally settled in Somerville where she lived for 65 years.She was a longtime member of the Somerville Community Baptist Church.
Sally leaves her sons, Robert L. Goodwin Jr. and his wife, Etta, of Melrose and Gary C. Goodwin and his wife, Claire, of Somerville; her siblings, Wesley Spinney and Verna Roberts, both of Canada and the late Doris Hopkins; also survived by five grandchildren, Robyn LeBlanc and Gayle, Gary, Gregory and Lisa Goodwin; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, July 8 at11 A.M.Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4 - 8 PM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Memorials in Sarah's name may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
