Shelley McIntyre Draper, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully at Forestdale Park Assisted Living in Malden on February 28th 2024, at the age of 74.
Shelley was born in Auburn, Indiana, one of three children of the late James McIntyre and Joyce (Wiley) McIntrye. She attended Auburn High School and received her Bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and her J.D. from Boston College School of Law.
Raised in a small midwestern town, Shelley found and adopted Melrose as her home away from home. She put down roots, and developed many connections and lifelong friends over her 40 years being a member of the community.
Shelley practiced law in Boston for over thirty years. Her greatest joy was helping others. She was a brilliant attorney who generously gave her time and expertise to community causes and some of our most vulnerable neighbors. She also served as a legal advocate for children in the foster care system and those who needed additional services and support.
She will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered by her friends and family.
She is survived by brothers, James McIntyre and his wife Wendy of Brookhaven, GA, and William McIntyre and his wife Kelly of Stuart, FL. She was the "cool" aunt to her loving nieces and nephew Kristen, Katie, Casey, Jamie, and Alex; and nine grandnieces and nephews. We will miss her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, April 26 from 12-1pm, followed by her Memorial Service celebrated at 1pm.
