Mrs. Shirley C. (Noftall) Palmer - Schmidt, of Medford, died Monday, February 5, 2007 in her home in the loving care of her husband, after a short andcourageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 69 years old.
She leaves her husband, Robert K. Schmidt of Medford; her children, Pamela V. Holt and William B. Palmer; her grandchildren, Jason and Brandon Holt; and several nieces and nephews. She was born December 6, 1937 in Medford, daughter of the late Job Steele Noftall and Violette (Boone) Noftall-McCoombs and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Medford High School. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Palmer, her brother, Wilbur McCoombs and her step-father, Russell McCoombs.
Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at the former Walter & Bills Automotive in Woburn for many years, retiring in 1983.
She and her husband attended Grace Chapel in Lexington. Among her interests and hobbies she loved people, life and animals and her home. Shirley enjoyed reading, especially mysteries and cross country skiing. Other interests included photography and travel but most of all she was an avid fly fisherman.
