Sophie Maloof was born on June 15, 1945 in Methuen, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rita M. (Begin) Maloof.She was raised and educated in Lawrence and worked as a bookkeeper for many years.
An artistically talented woman, Sophie became known as the "Egg Lady" from her years of perfecting the art of making Faberge-inspired eggs.She taught classes out of her home, travelled across the country teaching people the skill and was the president of the New England Egg Art Guild for many years.Some of her work attracted national attention as she was invited to Washington, DC where she enjoyed lunch with First Lady, Laura Bush.Her talents crossed mediums as she was a painter and won first prize in a charcoal drawing contest.
Sophie was also active within her community, as a past president of the Greenwood Junior Women's Club, member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Harmony Chapter #50 in Wakefield, and treasurer for the Stoneham Arts and Crafts Guild.
She was the cherished mother of Lauralyn M. Patterson and her husband Charlie of Somerville. Loving grandmother of Sophie M. Patterson of Somerville.Dear sister-in-law of Muriel Elaine Kaloustian of Melrose, Bradford L. Chetwynd and his wife Barbara of Bolton, Alice M. Chetwynd of Wakefield, Phillip A. Chetwynd and his wife Sally of Wakefield, Joan G. Chetwynd of Wakefield and the late Robert C. and Phyllis A. Chetwynd. Former wife of William E. Chetwynd of Wakefield.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Sophie's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, October 24 from 4-8 PM and again on Tuesday morning where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
