Spiro "Pete" Costas, 80, of Melrose, died suddenly Thursday,January 27, 2005 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Pete was born in Albania, December 1, 1924, son of the late Peter Costas and Artemis (Mantaris) Costas.
Pete was raised in Boston and graduated from Charlestown High School. Pete served in the US Navy during WWII and in the US Army after WWII.He was an Electronic Technician at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard for 10 years and also at thePortsmouth Naval Shipyard from which he retired after 25 years.He also worked inthe Shipping and Receiving Department for 11 years at Sears in Saugus.Pete was a member of Wyoming Lodge AF&AM, Melrose, the Hugh dePayen Commandry, the Aleppo Temple Shrine and he was a 32nd Degree Mason.Pete loved to visit yard sales and enjoyed his bicycles. Pete was the beloved husband for 49 years ofTheodora "Teddy" (Barlas) Costas.He was the loving father of Joan M. Costas of Melrose and John A. Costas and his wife, Patricia, of Medford.Pete was the brother of George P. Costas of Brockton, Helen Costas of Boston and the late Michael P. Costas.He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE Monday, Jan. 31 at 8 AM. Funeral Service in the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 PM.
