Mr. Stephen M. Whitten, a Malden resident, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 after a period of declining health.
He was 67 years of age.
Stephen was born August 31, 1942, in Chelsea, one of five children of the late Charles E. Whitten and Anna (Hawkes) Whitten.He grew up and was educated in Chelsea where he attendedSt. Rose's High School and was a member of the drum corp.
He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.He was also a member of the Irish American Club and the Elks Club in Malden. A fun loving man who loved to laugh, sing and dance. Always loved a good joke, the Patriots and classic war movies.
He spent over 18 years as a salesman at the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Medford where he was always #1 in customer satisfaction. He always enjoyed making people happy and leaving them with a smile on their face.
Devoted father of Beth Edwards of Long Beach, CA and Michael J. Whitten of Nashua, NH. Dear brother of Thomas G. Whitten of Fort Clinton, OH,his late brothers Charles, Joseph and late sister Ann Olden. He was a cherished grandfather to Jolene Whitten, Amanda Whitten and Kyle Edwards.He is also survived by his Sister-in-law Adele Whitten of Boxford, many nieces, nephews and a great grandson.
Stephen also leaves behind his loving companion of 29 years, Mary R. Langille, her three children, Christopher, Steven and Gary, and her three grandchildren, Mark, Kristen and Lidiya.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, Monday, May 17th followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at a time to be announced. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2-6 PM. Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
