Steven P. Kenney

Steven P. Kenney, a longtime resident of Waltham, passed away peacefully at Winchester Hospital on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at age 62.

Steve was born in Arlington on November 5, 1954, one of three children of the late Walter T. Kenney, Jr. and Nancy (Phillips) Kenney. He was raised in Lexington where he graduated from Lexington High School, and attended UMASS - Amherst. With a strong work ethic, Steve was an accountant at H&R Block in Newton for 25 years.

Always his own man, Steve was a free spirit who lived life the way he wanted to. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all the Boston teams. He often walked downtown Waltham, making friends along the way to find a seat at one of the local restaurants with the game on. Sociable, unique, and independent, Steve was a well known local presence in Waltham over the years.

In his free time, he was an avid reader with a particular interest in politics, and history. Steve also was a longtime music fan who loved the classic rock days of the 1960's and 70's. He enjoyed attending many concerts over the years, and could be heard singing along to a favorite Bob Dylan or Grateful Dead song. Most importantly, Steve loved being with his family, especially for the holidays, and was a great uncle to his four nieces and nephews. He will be missed.

Steve was the loving brother of Phillip J. Kenney and his wife Monique of Melrose, and the late Emily Maleyeff and her surviving husband John of Jamaica Plain. Caring uncle of Alex Maleyeff of Toronto, Lara Maleyeff of Jamaica Plain, Caitlin Kenney of Melrose, and Elizabeth Kenney of Melrose.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Steve's life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, August 3 from 4-8pm, and again on Friday at 9am before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield for his Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am.
