Susan E. (Guarente) Regan

Susan E. (Guarente) Regan, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Friday, August 14, 2020, at age 71.

Susan was born in Boston on May 30, 1949, one of two children of the late Albert V. Guarente and Elizabeth (Carr) Guarente. A 12th generation Melrosian and descendent of the Upham family, Susan was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1967. Sue was married to Robert F. Regan in 1969, and raised a family of two sons in Melrose.

Sue worked as an HR Trainer for retail companies including Filene's, Talbots, J. Jill and Lindt. She also worked at the YMCA in Melrose and Newton for several years. Most recently, she had been working at Home Instead Senior Care, Melrose.

Deeply faithful, Sue was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Melrose. She humbly devoted herself to living her faith every day, and served as a prayer group leader and Eucharistic minister at St. Mary's.

Active in the Melrose community, Sue served as President of the Melrose Bandaiders, and President and longtime member of Kappa Delta Psi sorority. During the summer months, Sue found respite with family at their cottage in Kennebunkport, Maine, a place she treasured.

Above all, family was most important to Sue. She found joy in moments large and small spent with her family, including attending various sporting events, or recitals for her grandchildren.

Sue Regan was a woman of strength. Strength in family, strength in God, and strength of spirit. She will be very deeply and sorely missed, but the many gifts that she leaves behind will continue to strengthen the bonds within her family.

Susan was the beloved wife of Robert F. Regan with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Devoted mother of James Regan and his wife Leea of Melrose, and Thomas Regan and his wife Valerie of Melrose. Dear sister of Bill Guarente of Acton. Cherished grandmother of Katie, Denis, Caroline, Susan, Samantha, Erin and Brigid. Dear sister-in-law of Peter Regan and his wife Mary Jo, and Carole Regan, both of Melrose.

Out of respect and concern for public health, the Regan family will gather privately for all services. Funeral Mass in honor of Susan's life at St. Mary's Church will be private. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in Sue's memory may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, PO Box 32141, New York, NY 10087 or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
