Susan M. "Suzy Q" (Kelly) Yang

Susan M. "Suzy Q" (Kelly) Yang, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 29, 2024 surrounded by loved ones, after a second courageous battle with cancer at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn. She was 63 years young.

Susan was born on January 18, 1961 in Chelsea. She spent her youth in Chelsea where she was raised with her 3 siblings. At the age of 14, the family returned to their roots in Prince Edward Island where they lived and cared for Sue's grandparents. Self reliant, and independent, Sue's determination in life was shaped by the strong, resilient generations of family that raised her. After graduating from Montague Regional High School in PEI, Sue returned to Massachusetts, settling in Wakefield, establishing a new, equally well-grounded home for her children and later grandchildren.

Sue's home in Wakefield became a reflection of her unconditional love, and Sue was at the center of it all. She took joy in hosting decades of family parties, events, get-togethers, and generations of her friends and her children's friends. With a love for her home and innate ability to make anyone laugh, she naturally brought groups together for a good time. While loving her home, she also built connections with many friends across the country through her down-to-earth, genuine spirit and quick wit.

With a stubborn streak, and very strong work ethic, Sue excelled at her career working in freight logistics as an Import Analyst for Del Coronoa and Scardigli. Outside of work and her family, Suzy found time for her favorite activities, coloring, playing cards, bird watching and cherished time spent with her mini (large) poodle, Harley.

At her core, Sue was extremely dedicated to her family, treasuring her relationships and took special care in showering her grandchildren with gifts. Sue was a warrior whose strength and resilience was truly unmatched. Her good humor sustained her while lifting the spirits of family around her. Her larger-than-life presence was felt deeply by everyone she met, and all were better for it. Sue will forever be in our hearts and remembered for her kindness, singing, love of bird watching, and most of all her laughter and light. May she rest in peace.

Susan was the beloved wife of Jimmy W. Yang with whom she shared over 20 years. Devoted mother of Paula Sanderson of Wakefield, Cheryl Sousa and her husband Matthew of N. Hollywood, CA, and Robin Macneil and her husband Lucas of Melrose. Cherished daughter of Ione (Johnston) Kelly of PEI, Canada, and the late Rollie Kelly. Loving sister of Ron Kelly and his fiancé Karen McClary of Lynnfield, Lisa Kelly Butler and her husband Lorne of PEI, Canada, and the late Deborah Kelly-Hawkes. Loving grandmother of Erika Sanderson and her fiancé Nicholas Colella, Jonathan Spaulding, Elenore Sousa, Coraline Sousa, and Jarrett Macneil. Special aunt of Erin (Kelly) McCarthy her husband Scott, Savannah Butler, and Lydia Butler, and many other nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to honor Susan's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Sunday, August 4 from 2-5pm, followed by a Sharing of Memories by the family at 5pm. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to a reception at the Knight of Columbus, 113 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington.

For family and friends in Prince Edward Island, a Celebration of Life for Sue will be held at a later date on PEI.
