Syble I. (Lain) Kenny, a longtime resident of Saugus, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 3, 2014 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at age 90.
Syble was born on April 30, 1924 in Winnesburo, Texas, one of nine children of the late Shelton Lain and Etta Del Bridges Lain.She was raised in Winnesburo and after graduating from high school enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps.During World War II, while stationed in Washington, DC, she met her future husband Bernard Kenny.Syble was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 and eventually settled in Medford where she would raise her daughter, and two sons.
For 10 years, she worked as a real estate agent selling homes in Arlington. She then began an enjoyable 20-year career in civil service as a bookkeeper for the US Coast Guard offices in Boston.
Syble was a strong and independent woman with a deep connection to her faith. She was a dedicated parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus for many years and lived her faith every day.She was a kind and thoughtful person who was a good friend to many people, especially to her friends and neighbors in her apartment community, The Commons in Saugus. During her spare time, she was an avid seamstress and made clothes including a wedding gown for her daughter.Her other great passion in life that brought her much joy was gardening.A true green-thumb, she cared meticulously for her many plants, flowers, and cactuses.
Syble was the former wife of the late Bernard P. Kenny.Devoted mother of Christopher P. Kenny and his wife Lisa of Georgia, J. Douglas Kenny and his wife Jodi of Hampton, NH, and Laurel A. Bowen and her husband Jay Jenks of Wakefield. Dear sister of David Lain, Billy Glen Lain, and Donnie Lain, all of TX, and the late Bobby Lain, Willie Ruth Davis, Mary Helen Helmsley, Delbert Lain, and Jo Lynn Lain.Cherished grandmother of Kathryn, Kurt, Shannon, Leora, Katrina, and Camille.Also survived by 5 loving great-grandchildren.
