Mrs. Teresa M. "Terry" (Lennon) O'Brien, a resident of Melrose, passed away while at home surrounded by her loving husband and two children after a remarkable and inspirational seven year battle with lung cancer on Saturday morning, December 24, 2011.She was 68 years of age.
Born in Roslindale on January 9, 1943, Teresa was one of eight children of the late Walter Lennon and Teresa (Dunning) Lennon.She was raised in Roslindale where she graduated from Roslindale High School.On November 17, 1968, Teresa married John R. O'Brien thus beginning a 43 year marriage of love and devotion.She worked at First National Bank of Boston for several years before returning to the home to raise their daughter and son.More recently, she worked at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital as a medical librarian for 17 years.
Terry's life revolved around her love for her family.She was an incredible mother to her two children, Susan and John, and an adoring wife to John.Terry found great joy in spending time with her grandson, Jack.She loved Wells, Maine where they had a summer home for many years.For much of her life, what made her the most happy was spending time with her family and friends, and being near the ocean and on the beach in Wells.
Terry was the beloved wife of John R. O'Brien with whom she shared 43 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Susan Dreiman and her husband Vlad of Vienna, VA, and John J. O'Brien of Cambridge.Cherished grandmother of Jack Dreiman.Loving sister of Walter Lennon and his wife Penny of Byfield, James Lennon and his wife Loretta of Chestnut Hill, Marion Masterson and her husband John of Westwood, Dorothy Lindner and her late husband John of Culver City, CA, Rita Barry and her husband Richard of Freeport, NY, Paul Lennon and his wife Anne Marie of Westwood, and Richard Lennon and his wife Elaine of Walpole.She was the loving aunt of 27 nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Terry's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, December 28 from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
