Thomas A. Erickson, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He was 72.
Thomas was born in Boston on February 12, 1942, one of three children of the late Frank Erickson and Louise (Baretta) Erickson. Raised and educated in East Boston, he received an honorable discharge for his service in the United States Air Force.Tom was an iron worker for several years and later worked as a TV repairman for many years. He lived in East Boston where he met his wife of 50 years, Everett for 20 years, and Melrose for the last 20 years.
Tom's needs in life were simple. He loved eating, especially Elaine's home-cooked Italian food. He also loved watching football and was a big New England Patriots fan. Perhaps most of all was his love of gambling.An avid gambler for much of his life, he found great joy through the excitement of horse racing.Tom spent hours researching and reading to spot the best horses. His dedication and love for the sport often turned luck on his side.But most of all, he loved the excitement and thrill of going to the track, wearing his favorite scaly cap, and placing a couple of bets. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
Tom was the beloved husband of Elaine (Theodore) Erickson with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Devoted father of Lisa J. Marino of Melrose, and Sheryle Rogato and her husband David of Billerica. Dear brother of Corinne St. Laurent of Revere and Ellen Modica of Chelsea. Cherished grandfather of Michael Marino of Melrose, and Domenic, Karissa, and Carmine Rogato, all of Billerica. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 4-8PM, and again for his Funeral Service on Thursday at 10AM. Interment with military honors by the US Air Force in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
