Troy P. Oosterman,
73 of Prescott, AZ, formerly of Melrose, died at home on Saturday September 18, 2004 after a brief illness.Mr. Oosterman was bornMay 2, 1931 in Northbridge, MA, son of the late Grietsen and Eva (Vander Meer) Oosterman. Troy graduated from Melrose High School, 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, attained the rank of Boilerman First Class and served on the U.S.S. Manatee during the Korean Conflict crossing the Pacific Ocean four times and was honorably discharged in 1955.Troy was the owner and administrator of the Oosterman Rest Homes of Melrose and Wakefield until his retirement in 1993 when he and Astrid moved to Prescott, AZ. Troy was a member and Past President of the Melrose Lions Club and a former Treasurer of the Congregational Retirement Homes, Inc.He also served on the Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose Board of Trustees and was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church, Melrose.
Troy was the husband of Astrid (Erickson) Oosterman.Father of Paul G. Oosterman and his wife Dana of New Ipswich, NH, James E. Oosterman and his wife Lisa,and Robert T. Oosterman and his wife Cheryl, all of Melrose.Brother of Gerald Osterman and his wife Irma of Little Rock, AR, Gladys Foster of Melrose and Henry Oosterman and his wife Barbara of Framingham.Grandfather of Mark, Ryan andLindsay all of New Ipswich, NH and Kate and Lauren Oosterman of Melrose.Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends in Prescott, AZ and Melrose. Memorial Service at the First Congregational Church, 121 West Foster St., Melrose Saturday, October 2 at 11 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Gifts in his memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Church or to YMRC Hospice Restricted Account, P.O.
