Veronica A. (McLaughlin) Stanford, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away peacefully at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at age 83.
Veronica was born on May 24, 1941 in Charlestown, the daughter of the late William J. and Agnes V. (Mulcahy) McLaughlin. She was raised in Charlestown where she graduated from Bunker Hill High School. On May 15, 1965, she married her best friend Paul J. Stanford, settling in Malden to raise four children.
A nurturing, supportive and caring woman, Veronica operated a home daycare for Catholic Charities for over 50 years. While balancing the needs of raising her own four children, Veronica lovingly cared for an additional six children with a heart filled with compassion and love. Through the program she helped countless families in need of childcare and a safe environment.
Family was at the core of her life as a devoted wife, dedicated mother and loving grandmother. With the help of Paul, she held the family tight with special needs care for their beloved daughter, Melissa. Happiest when surrounded by her family, Veronica found great joy in gathering with generations of family for a special August week all together at Hampton Beach every year. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Malden, and in her free time enjoyed the thrill of the casino whether in Las Vegas, Foxwoods or closer to home playing Bingo! She also had an eye for fashion, especially nice fashion, and always spotted a find at Filene's Basement, QVC or HSN.
With her strength of will and warmth of heart, Veronica lifted up those around her and enriched the lives of so many. She was feisty, sometimes stubborn, but for all the right reasons, and always had her heart in the right place. She will be deeply and sorely missed, but her caring heart, and nurturing spirit will carry on with her family. May she rest in eternal peace.
Veronica was the beloved wife of Paul J. Stanford whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Paul "PJ" Stanford of FL, Jennifer Valentino and her husband Anthony of Rockville Centre, NY, Jeffrey Stanford and his wife Robbin of Peabody, and the late Melissa Stanford. Cherished grandmother of Wyatt, Victor, Anthony Paul, Nathan, Ava and Blake. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather in honor of Veronica during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, June 13 from 4-7pm, and again on Friday at 10:15am before leaving in procession to St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem St., Malden for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:30am. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Gifts in Veronica's memory may be made to Catholic Charities Boston, 275 W.
