Victoria A. Bolles

Victoria A. Bolles, longtime Melrose resident, passed away on January 29, 2010 at her home after a period of declining health. She was 62 years old. Victoria was born on November 1, 1947 in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Frank C. Bolles and Virginia S. Bolles.

She was raised in Hamburg, New York where she graduated from Hamburg High School. She received a degree in philosophy and religion from Boston University in 1969 and started a custom jewelry making business. During the 1970s, Victoria developed an interest in early music and played the recorder in early music concerts.She worked as a technical writer for Teradyne Inc. for 3 years before she began a career as a freelance writer. A passionate lifelong writer, Victoria was involved in several writing clubs and organizations, one in particular for over 32 years. For 8 years, she worked as an editor and writer for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, advancing human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world.

A 13-year member and recent President of the Melrose Historical Society, she was the programs director and writer of the society's newsletter. Along with her passion for writing, Victoria enjoyed Sacred Harp Singing and West Gallery Music. Her family and friends will also remember her love of cooking.

Victoria was the beloved wife of George W. Pomfret with whom she shared 22 years of marriage. Dear sister of the late Irene Bolles and cousin of Barbara Evans of Oak Point, TX. She is also survived by Adam G. Pomfret and his children, Amelia, Julia and Aiden, all of Terre Haute, IN and Timothy D. Pomfret and his children, Luke and Jack, all of Wooster, OH.

Visiting hours will be held at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Monday, February 1, 2010 from 4-8 PM. A Memorial Service in honor of Victoria's life will be held in the G.A.R. Room at Memorial Hall, 590 Main St., Melrose on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 1 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Gifts in memory of Victoria may be made to the Hallmark Health Hospice, 178 Savin St., Ste. 300, Malden 02148 or American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham 01701.
