Vincent J. Quealy, most recently of Scituate, MA, died on Tuesday, May 16th after a very brief illness.Mr. Quealy was born in Lowell, MA on January 20, 1923 and was one of seven children in a large Irish Catholic family, both parents of which had emigrated to the Boston area directly from County Clare, Ireland.
The family moved to Brookline, MA where young Vincent attended St. Mary's High School and excelled as both a pitcher on the school's baseball team and as a lead debater on the school's debate team.
Upon graduation from St. Mary's High School, he attended St. John's Seminary in Brighton, MA for a time, but eventually left the seminary and completed his studies at Boston College.He served in the US Navy during World War II and was assigned to a variety of administrative positions at naval bases around the US.
Mr. Quealy was married to Anne Farrell of Dorchester, MA on October 12, 1949 and enjoyed a 57-year long marriage.The couple has six children and eleven grandchildren and found their greatest pleasure in forging strong and close-knit ties among all members as the family expanded through the years.
Mr. Quealy worked, over the course of the last thirty years, in both the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Treasurer's office and in the Commonwealth's Archives Department.He thoroughly enjoyed his work and talked often about the many friends that he had made in each department.
While Mr. Quealy always maintained a very avid interest in sports of all kinds, he was especially a fan of the Red Sox and Boston College football.His greatest devotion, however, was always to his large family and he remained fully involved in all of the interests and activities of the entire large group, often remarking that his grandchildren brought him a special joy.
Vincent was the beloved husband of Anne M. (Farrell) Quealy.Devoted father of Suzie Ward and her husband, Henry of Melrose, Ginny Dunphy and her husband Patrick of Milwaukee, WI, Vincent J. Quealy, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Northboro, Gerard Quealy and his fianc?, Pam Richards of Hyannis, Anne Bartkiewicz and her husband, Paul of Sacramento, CA and Beth Saunders and her husband, Gray of Scituate.Brother of Sr. Ernestine Quealy, SSJ of Brighton, Theresa Lombardozzi of New Haven, CT, Lawrence Quealy of Bath, ME, Brendan Quealy of Danvers and the late John and Thomas Quealy.Cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren.
