Vincenza (Yovino) Canning

Vincenza (Yovino) Canning, a resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Genesis at Wakefield Center on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at age 84.

Vincenza was born in Boston, one of four children of the late Joseph Yovino and Rose (Montelepre) Yovino. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant in the healthcare field.

A self taught, progressive woman, Vincenza was into health food, vitamins, weight training, and running years before these activities became mainstream.

One of her passions in life was animals. For many years, she bred, showed, and trained dogs. She loved them all, even the Dobermans, Rottweiler's, and Pit Bulls but especially loved the ones she rescued.

Her other passion was dancing. She and her sister Joan especially loved Wonderland Ballroom. A striking woman, she loved getting dressed up, visiting the hairdresser, eating out, seeing and being seen. "Vinny" as she was known to her friends had a sharp wit, a sarcastic sense of humor, and always asked for "extra olives" in her favorite beverage.

Her greatest passion in life was Guy, her first husband and father to Paula and Pamela. Even after their divorce and up until his death, they continued to remain close.

She was the beloved mother of Paula Grace Provenzano of Lynn, and Pamela Houghton of Plymouth. Dear sister of Alice Tucker and her husband Thurman of Weymouth, Joan Ferentz of Harrisburg, PA, and Stephen Yovino of Tampa, FL. Devoted grandmother of Jessica Houghton and her partner Derreck Hurlbut of Plymouth, and Gina Urbani and her husband Michael of Plymouth. Caring great-grandmother of Katelyn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are private. Gifts in Vincenza's memory may be made to the North Shore Animal Hospital, 1 Neptune Blvd., Lynn MA 01902.

She will be lovingly remembered.
