Mrs. Virginia (Rowe) "Ginny" Coleman, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield, at age 88.
Mrs. Coleman was born on May 23, 1924 in Boston, daughter of the late Frank E. Rowe, MD, and Viola A. (Koegel) Rowe.She was raised in Revere and Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School.She attended Nasson College in Springvale, Maine and settled in Melrose with her husband Philip J. Coleman.They raised six children and Virginia who was lovingly known as "Ginny" worked as a caretaker for the elderly in Melrose.She also was a registered dietician for Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett.
Ginny was a longtime active member of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church where she sang in the choir.An avid gardener, she loved plants, and was known as a "green thumb."Her other interests included collecting antiques, reading about the royalty in England, especially the Queen, and royal castles.She cherished her loving cat, "Baby", but above all else, she loved the time she spent with her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Philip J. Coleman with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Betsy Stamegna of N. Reading, Louise Joyce and her husband Richard of Newburyport, Carolyn Clark and her husband William of Rollinsford, NH, Andrew P. Coleman of Reading, Daniel R. Coleman of Reading, and Philip H. Coleman of Everett. Mother-in-law of Donald Stamegna of Rockport.Cherished grandmother of Angela D'Ambrosio, Darlene Cote, Donald Stamegna III Matthew Joyce Patrick Joyce, Katherine Joyce, Timothy Clark, Jason Clark, Cassandra Coleman, Christopher Coleman, Elizabeth Coleman, Molly Coleman, and Andrew Coleman.Loving great-grandmother of Timothy, Ashley, Austin, Kaila, Ty, Katrin, Lillianna, Miabella, Stephanie, Avalyn, Anthony, and Kenneth, Jr.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Ginny's life by gathering at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Friday, April 26 from 9:00-10:00 AM followed by her Funeral Service celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
