Mrs. Virginia (Wheeler) Day, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Oosterman's Rest Home in Melrose. She was 96 years old.Virginia was born on June 2, 1913 in Providence, Rhode Island, one of two daughters of the late Frank W. Wheeler and Susan (Hayward) Wheeler.
Mrs. Day was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1931, and from Massachusetts College of Art in 1935.She worked as a claims adjuster for John Hancock Life Insurance Co. in Boston until her retirement in 1974.Mrs. Day was a longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church.She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member Bible Study group and the Business and Professionals Club.Mrs. Day was also a member of the Melrose Camera Club and Arts and Crafts Club.
She was the beloved wife of the late Laurence S. Day.Step-mother of Nancy D. Thompson and her husband George of Georgetown, Priscilla C. Neal and her late husband Charles of Middleton, and the late John C. Day and his wife Barbara Collins of Norwood.Sister of the late Frances H. Wheeler.Also survived by 9 step grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren.
